I have 5 station rotations and 2-3 of them have iPads. My first iPad station is computer. At this station, students use Starfall app. or AR app. to take a book test. My next station is listening station. In this station, students get online to use Tumblebooks or they use Reading Rainbow app. My next station is word work and it uses the iPad periodically. Sometimes they learn words and letter sound on Endless Reader app. or use Spelling Bug or Spell City for spelling word practice. I use an iPad in Guided Reading on Fridays to give Fluency phrase tests. I use this using the flash card app.
Since we have already implemented the tablets in our classroom, I will post how I implemented them and how we use them.
When we first received out iPads, I pulled on out and physically showed them how to properly handle them. I do have a sheet that shows them, but I liked demonstrating it myself. I also showed them how to use the basic keys. The cart is in a corner of the classroom and doesn't move. I do have students that know how to charge the iPads, but I am the primary handler. Because we only use the tablets for stations (for now), I get them out and set them up in the morning. I go over any new apps before stations. I keep parents updated by telling them in my newsletter what apps we used that week and what those apps are for. |
